Mother of all Festivals
If you’re from Negros, that only means you know what’s up every April!
For those who aren’t from our island, or if you’re a tourist or a foreign student, then this month is the best month for you to explore the different must-see and must-do in the island of Negros and learn more about our culture.
Welcome to Negros Island!
Now embrace April with the 19th Panaad sa Negros Festival!
The word Panaad is the local term for the word “vow” or “promise”. Like any other festival, Panaad sa Negros is a thanksgiving festival. I could still remember the first Panaad sa Negros. The year is 1993, I think I was about 6 or 7 years old then. My Tita Marissa, together with my cousins, brought me there. For the first four years of the festival, Capitol Park and Lagoon was it’s home and it only lasted for three days. As the years pass by, the festival grew bigger that it needed to have a bigger venue. Thus, this thanksgiving festival paved the way for the establishment of the Panaad Park and Sports Complex, and it has become it permanent home. Now a week-long celebration, Panaad sa Negros features 32 festivals that is participated by 13 cities and 19 towns of the province. Each participating cities and municipalities have theme booths that showcase their history, culture, trade, agriculture, tourism and other industries. Because of this, Panaad sa Negros Festival is dubbed as the “Mother of all Festivals”
