“Right. Left. Left.” will lead you to the best hot wings in town.
It’s no secret that I’m a chicken aficionado. I think that’s already expected since I grew up in Dakbanwa sang Bacolod. I also enjoy spicy food. So after stalking some local bloggers about what’s hot and what’s not in Cebu, I come across an article with words “spicy” and chicken” together in one sentence. You can only imagine how I am over the roof with excitement! It’s like being proposed to by the only local celebrity I fell in love with, my dream boy, Marc Nelson!
Welcome to Gibbs’ Hot Wings!
It is a small restaurant in Holy Family Village II in Banilad. It is a family-run diner that is nestled in the owner’s house extension. It’s small and cozy with ambiance that makes you feel like you are home.
The moment you open the black unassuming door, a huge black wall of graffiti will welcome you. The concept is amazing! It allows visitors to leave message on the wall (even at the ceiling) about their experience after they devour the plateful spicy chicken wings. After reading the comments that were all over the place, I can say that Geliebter and I will leave this place with happy bellies.
Next time, I'm going to leave a mark here.
Heads-up! They don’t have the traditional menu. You actually have to walk couple of steps to their counter and the friendly server will show you what will make your belly happy. By the way, just a random FYI, they also don’t use the usual placemats. They use newspaper pages. I couldn’t help but admire this genius and eco-friendly idea.
I ordered Potato Wedges, 2 cups of rice, Spaghetti and Meatballs, Bacon and Mushroom Carbonara, and Gibb’s Hot Wings for Geliebter and I. Yes, you read it right. It’s only for two hungry individuals. Geliebter was actually actually shocked when he learned I ordered a lot of food. I guess I was just 101% convinced by the good reviews of this restaurant that I wanted to try almost everything.
For Gibb’s Hot Wings, they offer 5 levels of hotness that you can choose from There’s Hot, Original, Insanely Hot, 2 Intense, and Freakin Hot. I wanted to try level 3 Insanely Hot but got level 2 (Original) instead, because Geliebter is not really into spicy food.
Graffiti on the wall will show you what are you getting your taste buds into.
The food will take time to be served, so the huge graffiti wall can keep you entertained aside from the good music being played on the background.
The first food that hit our table is this appetizing Potato Wedges.
Gibbs’ Potato Wedges (P 75.00)
If you’re a fan of potatoes (like me), you will surely love this deep fried and tasty wedges served with sweet and spicy dip. This will definitely be on my order list every time I drop by.
Couple of minutes later, this seductive plate of wings came.
Level 2: Gibbs Hot Wings (P175)
Slathered with spicy sauce and served with special dressing, this is THE BEST HOT WINGS I’ve tasted!!! All the reviews I’ve read online about it are true!! It’s no wonder why I never came across a negative review about Gibbs. Even those who aren’t into spicy food dig it. This ambrosial dish made me want to try the other levels. Maybe next time, when Geliebter is ready to level-up. Hahahaha!
Let’s not forget this pitcher of house blend drink that will help your flaming tongue. It’s a mixture of Mango-Orange juice with chunks of cucumber.

And let’s not forget as well that I still ordered 2 of their pasta. We were already full but when these pasta landed our table, it still made us consumed our plate clean. The plate of Bacon and Mushroom Carbonara came first, and I knew Geliebter will like it. Geliebter is one of the choosiest person I know when it comes to pasta dishes. Now I know where we’re heading to whenever he craves for one. The white sauce on the linguine could be creamier, but maybe its just me. Nonetheless I enjoyed it. Geliebter enjoyed it. Tasty and not too dry.
Gibbs’ Bacon n’ Mushroom Carbonara (P 145.00)
There is no doubt why a lot of people love their Spag n’ Meatballs! This is definitely a must try! Between the two pasta I favored this more due to personal preference. Geliebter loved it too even if he is more of a “Carbonara-kind-of-guy”.
I know there are a lot of restaurants or fast food chains that can give you your chicken fix, but it’s always nice to go to a place where you feel like your mom cooked for you. From all the restaurants that we ate, Gibbs is so far the restaurant that Geliebter and I both enjoyed. And honestly, without bias, everything we had that day were all delicious. Truly a place of gastronomic bliss that will surely make you comeback for more!
