The 5 Love Languages
Have you heard of the 5 love languages? I had always assumed there was one way of showing love, but according the theory of Dr. Gary Chapman, I’m wrong. They’re as follows: Words of Affirmation, Acts of Service, Receiving Gifts, Quality Time, and Physical Touch and every person feels uniquely loved in one of these ways.
Dr. Chapman, a relationship counselor and has written over 20 books, theorized that the way you feel loved is also the way you showed love. According to him “people feel loved when a partner expresses love in the language that is natural to the recipient. If love is expressed in a different language, that message of love isn’t received.”
For example, if one partner expresses love as “Acts of Service,”” but the other needs “Quality Time” to feel loved, they’ll both feel frustrated. Or if a partner expresses love with “Gifts” to a partner who needs “Words of Affirmation,” that expression of love won’t be understood.
My previous manager, Daryl, was the one who introduced me to this over couple of beers. I got really curious about it that I looked it up online and even took the quiz. Below is my result.

This is so true. I am the type of person who value other people’s time. I believe that time is the most expensive gift that you can give to someone because it’s a portion of your life that you can’t take back. So I really feel loved when someone spends time with me and gives me their undivided attention.
I am not materialistic. That’s for sure. I don’t want to sound defensive but I am I don’t want to be misunderstood as well. I am not the type of person whom you can impress with expensive, meaningless gifts. Instead, I feel appreciated when someone gives me gifts that they made, a simple handwritten note, or even just a flower picked up on the sides of the streets. Indeed, it’s the thought that counts. I am a sentimental person too, so for sure this will end up in my memory box.
How about you? What is your love language? Do you believe in this concept? Let me know in the comments.
